February 2005 Graduate Clinical Seminar
February 2005 Graduate Seminar On February 26-27, 2005, eighteen participants joined Professor Neil R. Gumenick for 2 inspiring days of continuing education. The weekend focused on embodying the Basic Operating Principles that transform practitioners into selfless instruments of the healing force. Participants honed their rapport and diagnostic skills with each other through "role playing", as well as with actual patients. They refined their sensory skills (particularly the sense of smell), point location skills, pulse taking, and treatment planning. Another Graduate Seminar will take place in the Fall. Keep posted for details.

Class of 2003-2004
On August 16 2004, the Institute graduated its 5th one-year, part-time Classical Five-Element Acupuncture Program. The class included first year and senior acupuncturists, acupuncture physicians, physicians with no prior acupuncture training, and students still in Oriental Medicine school. They came from across the country to meet nine times, once a month for 4 days to learn how to become an instrument of healing, able to reach the depth of any patient"s suffering, at any level.

Over the year, they learned the Natural Laws that, when understood and implemented, make it possible to cure any disease that has not gone beyond the reach of man and woman. They learned impeccable point location and pulse reading, as well as the spiritual connotation of every point. With exposure to hundreds of patients, they learned when, why, and how to use the unique gifts of each point.

Most important, they transformed personally, from analyzing and thinking, to sensing from within themselves exactly what patients truly needed: physically, mentally, and spiritually. This was accomplished with the work of rapport building, becoming "at one" with a patient. From the place of oneness, the senses of smelling, seeing, hearing, and feeling awaken. At that point, students are no longer "in their heads," but truly present with the patient. As our late and beloved Master, Professor J.R. Worsley put it, "Practiced from your senses, this system of medicine is very easy. Practiced from your head, it is nearly impossible."

Several of this year's participants share their experiences:

"The experience of studying Classical Five-Element Acupuncture with Neil Gumenick has transformed my life. I feel more connected to my patients and better able to assess their individual needs. There is such beauty and simplicity to this medicine. Thank you Neil for helping me begin this amazing journey!" Kathleen Keneally, L.Ac.

"As a graduate, I was a Teaching Assistant with this year's class. It was truly miraculous to watch students" barriers drop, fears and insecurities disappear, old and ingrained ways of being simply melt before my eyes - to be replaced with keen awareness, the spontaneous joy of accomplishment, and the excitement of having this magnificent system of healing embodied within." Pam Francis, PhD, L.Ac.

"If you ever really wanted to practice medicine in a way that touches the very essence of each patient in the way that each needs most - and expands and enriches you with every treatment you give - this is the place to learn how. Neil Gumenick teaches with clarity, compassion, precision, wisdom, and patience. He is the finest instructor I have had in my career." Kim Smith, M.D
